It has been a very busy week at school and home. And at other peoples homes. I need to learn to say no more often. Too many times I find myself saying,” sure I can do that” when I really want to say, “I can do it, but I really don’t want to.” Helping people out with their “little renovations” that grow and grow is seriously becoming too much of a pain. It’s been so busy that I never had a chance to update my blog, but seriously if I have a spare minute it’s not the first thing that comes to mind. An ADHD guy who hunts and pecks his way through 12 words a minute doesn’t really want to sit and type, most of the time I lose my train of thought half way through the sentence( if it has already happened my apologies). Last weeks lecture was a complete bust for me. I logged on and was busy listening to what was going on only to find that I logged onto the wrong address and was listening to a lecture from last year. It only took me 20 minutes to figure it out( it was quite interesting though). When i finally got to the correct lecture it was tweek this and tweek deck that, I can hardly follow what is being said and what is being typed, nevermind get anything out tof the lesson. Now i know what EAL students must feel like, because half the language is new to me.
The next 2 and a half days I am at a PLC building conference in Regina. I’m guessing that I’ll have lots of time to catch up on my tweeting and such.
Adious ’til Tuesday
Hi Michael,
Each session is fully recorded, so perhaps you can watch the recording again, slow it down, and try things as you go. And, if you are not comfortable with typing, you could try an audio option. Would you feel more comfortable speaking or creating a podcast on a weekly basis instead of typing? I would be happy to help you out if you feel that typing is a problem.
HI Alec, I have been struggling trying to keep up with all of the new learning as well as everything else going on in life. Computers and I are often at odds with each other. I know they only do what they are told, I just don’t always speak their language. I have come up with an idea for my major project. Many times in my construction class I use a disproportionate amount of time reteaching skills because the student either wasn’t there or they have forgotten the skill because it has been a number of days (weeks, months) since they were first introduced to the skill. I want ot set up a you tube site where I can save a bunch of videos that the students or other teachers can access using a QR code and a smart phone. i already have some of the videos made I just have to start putting the project together. I know others are doing great things with their blogs and such, but I think this is something that I can accomplish with my limited skills. So, when you get a chance please let me know what you think. Thanks.
From my own experience, I can also recommend taking notes as you watch the recording or sit in on a live presentation. Ignore the chat room the first time around – just focus on what Alec says and take notes. Then if you want you can go back and review anything, references to what’s in the chat, etc. I could not have managed the class without taking notes! 🙂
I missed this comment. Thanks for the advice, the chat room is very distracting.Taking notes seems so “anti-online” computer based, but it has helped me stay organized.
Mike, if you want to get together I can show you around twitter and we can look at Tweetdeck together…I put it on my phone and computer at school..
Maybe in trade for some work around the house – I kid! Let me know – we can build our own PLC from your wolfpack…
Sounds good, guess I should have checked my blog earlier.
I know how you feel Mike. I never say no and always find myself too busy and unable to manage it all. How I got through 9 classes is still a mystery to me! I am also taking notes and trying to ignore the chat room. Not only can I not keep up with both but I find a lot of the chat beyond me. We are all at different levels so we will each make it our own journey. I might have to take up the audio option with you as I tore a ligament in my wrist and the brace is not computer friendly!

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one. sorry it took so long to reply. I’m not much of a computer person, and the weather has been too good to sit inside.
